New QuickStart Offerings to Help Microsoft Dynamics Customers Migrate to the Cloud

Simplifying the Cloud Migration Process

Microsoft has revolutionized the ERP space by positioning Dynamics 365 to include both CRM and ERP as fully cloud-enabled services integrated via the Microsoft Common Data Service. Guiding customers in their digital transformations, Eclipse, a DXC Technology Company has released a series of offerings to help on-premise Dynamics sites transition to the cloud.

CRM and ERP Reimagined in the Cloud

Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Customer Engagement (CRM) has been running on-line in the cloud as a true Software as a Service (SaaS) model for many years now and Microsoft has fine-tuned the continuous delivery model, allowing CRM customers to take advantage of new features easier and faster than ever before. CRM has led the way toward cloud-based business applications and Microsoft honed this process, driving the success of cloud applications seen today.

With the release of Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Enterprise edition (formerly Microsoft Dynamics AX), Microsoft has re-envisioned ERP as a true, cloud-enabled application running in a native HTML browser client and leveraging Microsoft SQL Server Azure and the best of the Microsoft Azure platform. Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations, Enterprise edition now includes disaster recovery and high availability in the subscription helping customers reduce business continuity risks by being far more extensive and cost effective than what’s currently available with existing on-premise systems.

Microsoft has also architected a new customization model using the Extensions Framework. Developing modifications using extensions leverages Eventing and Code Triggers with extension points that allow customers the flexibility of tailoring the ERP application to their specific requirements, with little or no risk of breaking modifications or application updates as they are rolled out. Microsoft will be locking the ERP application to only support extensions so that customers can continue to leverage new technology advancements and application feature upgrades going forward. Microsoft’s goal is to make Microsoft Dynamics 365 the last upgrade a customer will ever have to take on.

In many cases, existing on-premise systems have been in place for years. Chances are those same installations have been heavily customized and since then, Microsoft has released new features that might have rendered existing modifications unnecessary. In some cases, a client might need to map their current business processes to new and modern out-of-the-box, cloud-based functions to ensure their business requirements are being met for today’s digital world. Identifying what existing modifications are truly required to meet the specific business differentiators and then migrating them to new modern cloud-enabled technologies while ensuring continuity can be daunting.
